PUBLIC MEETING
THURSDAY, MARCH 22ND 6PM – MARYLAND COMMUNITY CHURCH

Subject: Henryville and So. IN Tornado recovery update

Terre Haute Ministries is actively responding to assist those in need after the F4 tornado swept across the southern portion of Indiana only a few short weeks ago. In Southern Indiana, 13 lives were lost and hundreds of homes were completely destroyed and many others were damages severely. Regardless of why there is an emergency, Terre Haute Ministries desires to mobilize the Body to meet the need.

VOLUNTEER

Terre Haute Ministries has been serving in Henryville for a couple of weeks now and has been asked to take the lead position in coordinating the large volume of volunteers and assembling them at “ROC (Rebuilding Our Community) Ranch Camp @ Country Lake.” These volunteers will be gathered to help support the clean-up and recovery effort. Through our INVOAD partnership, affiliated groups (volunteers that come as a group through their Church, denomination or national ministry) will be scheduled through this effort and hosted at Country Lake Christian Retreat Center. The Retreat Center maintains their commitment to hosting volunteers until the last home is built.

A public informational meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 22nd at 6pm, located at Maryland Community Church (4700 South State Road 46, Terre Haute, IN 47802). We will be sharing an update and information on the Henryville and surrounding area tornado recovery efforts. Most importantly, we will discuss how anyone interested in volunteering in the rebuilding efforts can get involved.

We encourage our congregations and community to volunteer for this recovery effort. This is an opportunity to be able to go on a mission trip and summer camp/retreat all at the same time. It will be an incredible experience right beyond our own back yards. For more information about the meeting, please contact kirsten@terrehauteministries.org or leave a message at the Terre Haute Ministries office at 812-234-7100 ext. 215

FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS

Financial contributions are still being accepted by Terre Haute Ministries to help support every aspect of the relief efforts. 100% of your donation will be sent to the Henryville area; Terre Haute Ministries does not keep any portion of designated donations for operating expenses. Checks can be made out to “Terre Haute Ministries.” Please indicate in the memo of your check: “Tornado Relief.” Donations can be sent to:

Terre Haute Ministries is actively responding to assist those in need after last Friday’s F4 tornado swept across the southern portion of Indiana. 94 Tornadoes created a large area of destruction and took 39 lives on Friday, a huge outbreak across several states. In Southern Indiana, 13 lives were lost and hundreds of homes were completely destroyed and hundreds of others were damages severely.

Terre Haute Ministries is gathering donated items and financial contributions to help in the areas of Henryville and Maryville Indiana. We are also coordinating a large volunteer effort to help support their clean up and recovery effort. At THM and in Terre Haute, we know what it is to be affected by a natural disaster. THM is a nearly 4 year old ministry that exists out of a response to the flooding disaster our community faced in 2008. THM is the Body of Christ’s initial and ongoing response to mobilizing the Body of Christ to serve those in need. Sometimes the need is due to a natural disaster that an entire community faces, sometimes it is a tragedy or need that a family or individual faces. Regardless of why there is an emergency, THM desires to mobile the Body to meet the need.

You can drop items off at any of our THM Churches, The Furniture Gallery or contact kirsten@terrehauteministries.org for more information

Items Needed: Best practice is to place items in a large plastic storage bin. This assists in delivery of items and also becomes very useful for families as they store either donated items or salvaged items from their damaged home.

Ready to eat food items (peanut butter, crackers, individual applesauce, fruit cups, etc)

Snack items (granola bars, snack cakes, trail mix, nuts, etc)

Hygiene products (soap, shampoo, toothbrush/paste, baby wipes)

Paper goods (kleenex, toilet paper, paper towels)

Paper plates and plastic utensils

Individual powder packets to flavor water (lemonade, gatorade, etc)

Washcloths and hand towels

If you would like to volunteer to help in recovery and response in Southern Indiana, please send your contact information and dates of availability to kirsten@terrehauteministries.org

We will also be serving at several different non-profit organizations in the downtown area that morning. In addition, those that may wish to participate but can not join us or are unable to serve with physical labor, can drop off baked goods at City Hall at 9am. We will take the baked goods to Lighthouse Mission and other agencies that help with feeding those in need.

Celebrate Recovery is launching at the Teen Challenge Center on Thursday, June 3rd at 7pm with an “Introduction to Celebrate Recovery” meeting. After the launch, it will run weekly on Thursday nights at 7pm. The Teen Challenge Center is located at 1340 Chestnut Street in Terre Haute. The Celebrate Recovery program is a Christ-centered, 12-step program for adult men and women who are dealing with hurts, habits, and hang-ups.

There is no cost for the program, however, a free-will offering will be taken to help with the cost of running the program. The meeting will consist of a worship time, and a teaching in a large group setting with both men and women. It will be followed by small groups, one for men and one for women, where we will discuss the evenings teaching and minister more specifically to the needs of those who are participating.

For more information, visit the Teen Challenge Center website at www.relevanthope.com or call 812-917-5562.
